A chapter is not designed. It is found, rebuilt, numbered and printed. Five steps, always the same five.
01. The document is found
It is never invented. Every chapter starts from something that already exists on a screen or on paper: a streak counter, a to-do list, a receipt, a form, an answer sheet. If nobody has ever seen it in their own life, it does not become a chapter.
02. It is rebuilt, not photographed
The document is typeset again from nothing, character by character, at the scale it will be printed. Tally marks are drawn by hand, one stroke at a time. Thermal print is rebuilt with its faded characters. A rubber stamp is built with its worn edges. Nothing is a filter applied to a photo.
03. It gets a number and a colour
From 001 to 010. The number is fixed for good and is printed at the foot of the document. The colour belongs to that chapter alone and is never reused. The same number and the same colour go into the seal printed on the chest. That is the whole identity system.
04. It is printed after you order
Nothing exists in advance. Your shirt goes into production once you have ordered it, at a partner printer in France, with water-based inks, on 220 gsm organic cotton. It costs a few days more than shipping from a warehouse. In exchange, no box of unsold shirts exists anywhere.
05. It is sent flat
Packed flat in recycled card, no plastic. The chapter seal is stamped on the box, the same seal printed small on the chest. Everything there is to read stays on the back.
Who sets the type
ONGLET OUVERT is run by one person in France. That is a fact about scale, not a disclaimer: it means the email you send is read by the person who drew the document, and that no design goes out because a marketing calendar said so.
The ten chapters are original work. They borrow no trademark, no character and no existing artwork. The receipt figures are orders of magnitude, marked with a tilde, in line with the ranges published by ADEME, and they are never presented as measurements.
